Shopping Weekend

This last weekend was really great for shopping. First I picked up two of my favorite magazines: Tea Time and Romantic Homes. Tea Time is a great magazine with recipes, and great articles about my favorite past time of Afternoon Tea. This issue actually featured tea houses from my home state so I picked it up and hope to visit the ones I had yet to discover. Romantic Homes is also a great inspiration to me as I love their casual, feminine aesthetic. June’s issue is all about summer and after today’s unexpected climbing temperatures, I think I need to start getting ready!

I also picked up a kit for cross-stitching at the bookstore. I had learned to cross-stitch in middle school as part of a required project, but I’ve been wanting to get back into it as an easy hobby to take out and keep my hands busy while I’m at home. Miss Woolly’s Mini Cross-Stitch Kit was just what I needed with enough supplies for six small projects. I’m already done with two and working on my third! I had forgotten how addictive it can be. I would love to get into different kinds of embroidery, but I think for now I’m going to stay within the comfortable grid of the “Aida” fabric.
Saturday, I went down to my favorite historic district, Ellicott City Main Street, for the grand re-opening of a very cute store: A Journey From Junk. The first person in at 10am with their email received a $50 gift certificate, which was the husband and I! We ended up spending the whole certificate on some wonderful finds: two sets of vintage pillow cases, a set of cuff-links and a tie bar (for the husband of course), a simple fan, a lolly-pop for my husband to round out the purchase, and for “spending” more than $30 they also let me pick out a free summer scarf! There were actually a couple stores doing grand re-openings this weekend, like All Time Toys which is a favorite stop for my husband and I. I certainly saw many more fun purchases I could have made, but I’m happy with what I came away with, and even more so that it was free!
